On 14 June 2013 in Sredets Hall of the Sofia Hotel Balkan (Sheraton) took place the First annual forum “Industry and Energy – overcoming disbalances factor for industrial stability.” The event was organized by Srednogorie Copper Industrial Cluster and Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers. The Forum met stakeholders in the field of energy: the responsible governmental
institutions –ministries, agencies and the regulator, power producers and retailers, industrial consumers, suppliers of high-tech equipment and others.
Key highlights in the first panel discussion, “Industrial Policy for Bulgarian industry – the role of access to energy and the effects of climate policy”:

-Network-prices and additives;
-Direct and indirect costs of CO2;
-The current situation of the electricity market and the prospects for development;

General partner of the event was “Aurubis Bulgaria”, one of the largest industrial enterprises in Bulgaria and one of the biggest energy consumers. The main activity is the processing of copper concentrates to produce copper anodes and cathodes, as well as by-products such as sulfuric acid, fahleite and sludge. It consists of four production units: metallurgy, refinery, copper cathode, sulfuric acid production and concentration plant.

The first annual forum “Industry and Energy – overcoming disbalances factor for industrial stability” hit substantive issues relating to the state of the electricity market and energy intensive industry in Bulgaria. Forum guests were able to participate in discussions on current issues of energy and industry, and to express their views on the necessary reforms and development direction. Focus was placed on the need to create a single branch association that brings together the interests of all companies in the energy sector, ongoing release of the middle voltage on the open market for electricity and the obstacles and opportunities faced by these users and willingness to create an energy market in Bulgaria.
