February 23rd, Chelopech Mining received three prestigious awards at an official ceremony held on the occasion of the Annual Responsible Business Awards, organized by the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum.
The Company ranked second in the Investor in Knowledge category with its Private English Language Secondary School “Chelopech” project. The school was established in 1995 and functions as the only private specialized school in Bulgaria, fully integrated in Chelopech Mining’s structure. Over 98% of the school graduates continue their education in higher educational institutions in the country and abroad. At present 26 graduates work for Chelopech Mining. The award was delivered by the Minister of Education – Sergey Ignatov.
Chelopech Mining ranked second in the Investor in the Community category for its Supporting the Local Communities program. Over the last several years, the Company has been implementing a longterm donation program by providing funds for urban planning and infrastructure and improving of living conditions in the Chelopech, Chavdar, Karlievo and Tzarkvishte municipalities. Along with the successful implementation of a number of infrastructure projects, cultural calendars including educational, sports, culture and social related activities in the settlements are funded on an annual basis. The award was presented by the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.
The ultimate recognition was the special ENGAGE award – Engagement of the International Business Leaders Forum. The award was presented by His Excellency Jonathan Allen, the Ambassador of Great Britain.
The ENGAGE Award is given to one amongst all nominated projects in the five categories. Its recipient is independently chosen by the International Business Leaders Forum whose main criterion is the level of employees’ involvement in the accomplishment of a company’s nominated project or the degree of employees’ overall contribution to socially responsible causes.

The competition of this year’s Responsible Business Awards involved 43 large companies and organisations with 65 projects in five categories – Investor in Human Capital, Investor in Knowledge, Investor in Environment, Investor in Community and Cause Related Marketing.

Chairperson of the Jury for the third consecutive year is Ms. Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia.
