Koprivshtitsa Municipality is located 110 km. from Sofia and 90 km. from Plovdiv, between the highest peaks of Central Forest – Bogdan (1604 m.) and Bunaya (1594 m.) in a narrow valley at 1060 m. altitude.
Koprivshtitsa is crucial for the Bulgarian history. 20 – April 1876 at Kalachevia bridge was launched April uprising that led to the liberation of Bulgaria.
Koprivshtitsa was declared a town-museum in 1952, an architectural – historical reserve in 1971, and in 1978 was recognized as a settlement of domestic and international tourism.
The architecture of the city is represented by masterpieces of Renaissance architecture stored more than 300 cultural monuments, 19 national significance. Among the attractions are the native home of Karavelov, Kableshkov Georgi Benkovski and Dimtcho Debelyanov. Valuable for its architecture, carvings and murals are Oslekova and Lyutova house.
Every five years in Koprivshtitsa conducted national folk festivals, as their first edition was held in 1965. The celebration lasted three day usually takes place in August. Every year on May 1 conducted a reconstruction of the heroic moments of the announcement of the April Uprising. Annually during the second week of August Summer organize cultural festivals, and every Saturday in the summer – Megdanski people.
Koprivshtitsa Municipality is a major cultural and tourist center, which is annually visited by many Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
