Chavdar Village is the successor of the oldest population, discovered by scientists in Srednogorie region, as witnessed by archaeological excavations of the settlement mound near Topolnitsa. There is evidence that organized life existed 7000 years ago.
Chavdar Municipality consists of one settlement – the village of Chavdar. The village is located in Sofia District in Zlatitsa-Pirdop valley with an average altitude of 570 meters, and to the north it borders with The Balkan Mountains and south enters Sredna gora mountain. It is situated 3 km. south of Highway I-6 (Sofia – Burgas), providing direct access to capital and other regions. Chavdar Municipality is the smallest municipality in Bulgaria with a population of 1233 people. Village of Chavdar is 69 500 dca, of which 50 850 dca are forests. Forest area of the municipality is a favorable environment for the development of hunting.
Municipal infrastructure is well developed. New or renovated buildings are the local administration, school building, post office, library, kindergarten. The park in the village center Is suitable for recreation. The water-main and the road surface are periodically renewed.
Chavdar Municipality has utilized funds in a four year period, that can be compared per capita to the funds, utilized buy much larger municipalities in Bulgaria.
