The Municipality of Mirkovo is located within the administrative boundaries of Sofia district.
It was established as a municipality in 1991 after the breakup of the former municipality of Srednogorie into six administrative units. The municipality is located east of Sofia in the west part of Zlatitsa Hollow. The northern part of its territory lies on the southern slopes of the Stara Planina, and its southern part on the northern slopes of the Sredna gora. The municipality covers an area of 207.6 square kilometers, which is 1.88% of the territory of the country. The village of Mirkovo is at 700 m altitude. It’s located 62 km east of Sofia, 20 km from Pirdop and 36 km from the town of Panagyurishte.
Its Agricultural area is 84,310 acres. Forest area is 114,104 acres.
The total population is 2,872 people, respectively 0.04% of the population of the country.
